Sippy and the story is written by Bimal Dutt, Gulzar, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, D.N. Mukherjee & Biren Tripathi. Its star cast are Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan & Sumita Sanyal. Movie was remade in Malayalam as "Chitrashalabham", released in 1998.

Movie also won one award in National Film Award, which is "Best feature film in Hindi" won by Hrishikesh Mukherjee & N.C.
